George Elliott Clarke, Canada’s Seventh Poet Laureate will read from his works and present awards to local elementary students who participated in a Canada 150 poetry and prose contest.
A revered poet, George Elliott Clarke was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, near the Black Loyalist community of Three Mile Plains, in 1960. He is now the inaugural E.J. Pratt Professor of Canadian Literature at the University of Toronto. He has worked as a researcher, editor, social worker, parliamentary aide, and newspaper columnist. His many honours include the Governor-General's Award for Poetry (2001), the Dartmouth Book Award for Fiction (2006), and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2008.
