Today June 20

Today Nursery Care Today is provided during the service by our regular certified child care provider, Carmen Ahuanlla of Andrew Fleck Child Care Services, and a volunteer from the congregation, in the Nursery. Baby-changing facilities are in the handicapped washroom, down the hall past the church office, and in the Nursery, downstairs off St. Andrew’s Hall.

Do you have a special prayer request this morning? Prayer requests may be left in the Prayer Request boxes found at each entrance to the sanctuary or phoned through the church office. Strictly confidential.

Congregational Picnic: Immediately after the second service today (June 20th) we will gather in St. Andrew’s Plaza. Hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and ice cream will be provided – please bring enough salad and/or dessert for your family and guests to enjoy. There will be games and another piñata!

Activities This Week

Organ Tuesdays: All recitals are given by Thomas Annand and each is from 12:10 until about 12:45 pm. Freewill offering .The series continues until June 29th. The programme:
June 15 The Classical Organ: Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms
June 22 Italian Holiday: Gabrieli, Frescobaldi, Bossi
June 29 Music from Canada and USA: Willan, Barber, Leclerc

Mid-Week Communion Service: Please join us on June 23rd for our final Wednesday service before we break for the summer. Attend a quiet, thoughtful service at mid-day, from 12:10 to 12:30 p.m. Bring your lunch, and join The Rev. Andrew Johnston for a cup of tea & conversation.

Women’s Missionary Society: Our annual outing to the summer home of Eva and Mac M. on June 24th has been cancelled, as Eva recovers from a fall, then hip replacement. We all wish her well, and a speedy recovery!

Knitting in the Round: For any age, interest and skill level, gather for a study, a craft, and fellowship, each Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Pottinger Room. Please contact Anna P.

Parents and Toddlers: Informal play for toddlers with good company for their parents, Fridays at 10 a.m. Call Heather P. for information.

Summer at St. Andrew’s: Just a reminder that next Sunday we begin our Summer hours: one service of worship only, at 10:00 am, until September 12th.

St. Andrew’s Advance Notice

Church School: From June 27th until September 12th, Children's Assembly and One Room Church School will be in effect. We are still looking for volunteers to teach and assist over the course of the summer. If you are interested, please contact Cathie W. St. Andrew's Church School will also require teachers, assistants and helpers, for the upcoming 2010/2011 school year. Please consider this a personal invitation to enrich the lives of our youth through Christian Education.

Congregational Visitation: Monday June 28th. Every three years or so Presbyterian congregations in the region are visited by a team from the Presbytery of Ottawa to discern its life and witness and to provide words of guidance. St. Andrew’s will be visited on Monday June 28th, meeting with the Minister, Kirk Session and Temporal Board. They would also be pleased to meet with individual members of the congregation at 8:30 p.m. If you have a celebration or a concern that you would like to communicate, you would be welcome! No need to register in advance, just gather in the Currie Room.

Other Events and Information

Bruce House thanks you! On May 6, a team from St. Andrew’s volunteered their time and participated in a spring clean up at Bruce House, a community-based initiative providing housing, compassionate care and support for people living HIV and AIDS in Ottawa. The Mission and Outreach Committee would like to send out their sincerest gratitude to everyone who participated in this event. All your hard work will give hours of enjoyment to those at Bruce House. See the current issue of St. Andrew’s in Action for photos.

The 2010 Congregational Photo Directory will be available soon! Please be sure to pick your copy on Sunday mornings during July.

Off adventuring this summer? Before you pack your boots and binoculars, please consider signing up for our PAR program. Pre-Authorized Remittance is a simple way to continue making gifts to St. Andrew’s while you are away. PAR contributions are automatically deducted from your bank account, letting you wander the wide world without a worry! Please see Stewardship Convenor Micah C for questions or an application form.

Congregational Retreat at Gracefield: Our annual congregational retreat will be September 10th-12th at the Gracefield Christian Camp and Conference Centre. All members and adherents of St. Andrew’s are invited for a weekend of fellowship, fun and spiritual reflection. More details to follow soon. Please direct any inquiries to Barbara S. or Riley B.

The Youth and Young Adult Ministry of Ottawa host The Laziest Bookclub Ever on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month through to the end of August. Meet at 7pm at Bridgehead on Elgin & Maclaren for fair-trade coffee as we discuss a short passage of scripture, news, philosophy or poetry. Come see where the conversation leads us! The Open Table: an ecumenical free meal for emerging adults held on the last Sunday of every month, 4:30-7:30 at All Saints Sandy Hill. We are estimating having about 40 attendees during the June meal on June 27th, and need vegetarian mains, salads, and burgers for the BBQ to satisfy those numbers. Summer Family Gatherings: Something new! A family BBQ each Wednesday of July. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided – come with a salad or dessert to share. A great time to meet others informally. Bring a soccer ball or Frisbee, and we’ll also enjoy the lawn of the Supreme Court. Sign up in Grant Hall. Offered by the C.E. team.

Summer Lemonade Servers: We are looking for volunteers to help with the serving of lemonade after the service of worship the Sundays of July and August. If you would like to help, please  Brenda M.

Eyeglasses for Haiti: Laurier Optical is accepting eyeglasses to send to Haiti. They will clean and adjust them, replace scratched lenses. We have already taken over 50 pair; if you have glasses you no longer need, please leave them in the basket in Grant Hall and Elizabeth will deliver them.

Emergency Food Table: We continue to encourage you to bring items of canned or boxed food that might support the work of the Centretown Churches Emergency Food Bank. The baskets are near each entrance to the sanctuary.

SUMMER OPEN DOOR at ST. ANDREW’S Through July and August we will open the doors of our historic church each Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (except July 5-14, & July 26-Aug. 7, when music festivals will fill the church).Two people are needed for each 4-hour shift. After services on Sunday mornings in July & August, we invite visitors to gather by the Lectern for a brief tour of the church, from 11:15-11:30. One volunteer is needed each Sunday. If you can help in this summer outreach ministry, please sign up on the chart in the photocopy room, or contact Sheila U.
