Director for Junior Choir, Ottawa, ON

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church

 

Located in the heart of Ottawa, St. Andrew’s Church is seeking a gifted individual to work directing and developing our Junior Choir and the music program for children and teenagers in the church. The position is occasional: 3 – 5 hours/week with seasonal flexibility.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A vibrant and infectious Christian faith

  • Training and/or experience in teaching and music

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Responsibility for developing relationships with children and teenagers in the congregation as well as their parents

  • A gift and passion for working with children and teens, developing and encouraging their gifts, and instilling in them a love for music

  • A successful police check with vulnerable sector screening

Responsibilities and Schedule:

The Junior Choir Director

  • Choses music for monthly participation of the choir in worship and meets weekly on Sunday mornings with the choir for rehearsal

  • Develops and rehearses the Christmas Pageant

  • Two to three times a year, prepares and leads the choir in singing at other events and activities, often outside of our congregation

  • Plans for and leads a yearly day long retreat and two to three social occasions for the choir

  • Has administrative responsibilities that include maintaining regular communication with parents around choir activities and expectations

  • Works closely and meets regularly with the Minister and Christian Education Ministries of the Church

  • Reports to the Clerk of Session

Remuneration: Dependent on experience/education

Start Date: January 1st, 2019

There will be a 3/6 month probationary period with a review at that time.
