Kids' Church and Kids on Mission

Our gathering dates for this year will be Saturdays:
   Sept 23   Oct 28   Nov 18   Jan 27   Feb 24   March 24   Apr 28   May 26   June 23

For details about our next date (November 18), please see below.

Kids' Church is a time specifically for preschoolers together with their siblings, parents and grandparents. The children gather on the floor in the sanctuary for a special worship time together. Afterwards, there’s a special craft time and a simple meal together in St. Andrew’s Hall. A time for growth, friendship and learning for children and their families.

For the Older Kids

We've got a program called Kids on Mission for kids in grades 1-6, focusing on reaching out to the community:  stocking food banks, making gifts for kids in hospitals and shelters, and assisting with disaster relief.

You are welcome to bring your preschooler to Kids' Church while your 1-6 grade children join the group for the older kids. All families will enjoy a meal together afterwards.

I am writing to invite you to November Kids’ church and Kids on Mission on Saturday Nov.18 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

KidsChurchNov2017-2.jpg

Please join us in St. Andrew’s Hall at 4:30 for simple craft, then at 5:00 in the sanctuary for worship.  After worship the two groups will join together for a potluck supper 5:30-6:30.

While older kids will spend time with Lorna to discover their mission for this month, younger kids will focus during worship on the theme of Lesson in Engineering from the Gospel of Matthew 7: 24-27. The kids will discover why we are invited to build our houses on rocks, and what is the rock Jesus meant in his parable of the wise and the foolish builders.

Kids’ church & Kids on mission is a time for kids to ask their question, to explore faith, get to know God , listen to God’s call through worship, mission, and fellowship

Please RSVP to me at: hk@standrewsottawa.ca about the number attending from your family and food that you would like to bring to share.

Please extend this invitation to your friends and neighbours. New families are welcome.

Please note that there will be no gathering in December, but instead you are invited to the Advent workshop; an evening of art on Dec. 2nd.

Below are a couple of upcoming announcements that may be of interest to your family. We hope that you can take part in these activities.

Colourful Advent Workshop:

Advent at St. Andrew’s will be colourful this year. We will mark the beginning of this season with an evening of art. Our Advent Dinner and Workshop will take place in St. Andrew’s hall on Dec. 2 at 6-8 p.m. with a free will offering Middle Eastern dinner served by the youth group. You are invited to share your favorite traditional Christmas dessert from around the world. This year we will be colouring 4 Advent posters that will be on display throughout Advent in St. Andrew’s Hall. During the evening, everyone will be invited to participate in colouring two big advent posters that carry the themes of worship during the season of Advent. We will also have the opportunity to sponsor one of the posters (or more). Donations will go to cover the cost and to PWS&D  Rohynga refugee crisis. Donations made before Nov.28 will be matched by the government. Donations of 20$ or more will receive tax receipts along with a card made by St. Andrew’s church school children to thank you for helping St. Andrew’s celebrate  Advent in colour, and for bringing some colour to the life of the Rohynga refugees. Tickets will be available in Grant Hall starting Nov. 12.

 Also,

The Annual Congregational Retreat in Gracefield

will take place on Feb. 10-11, 2018. The theme is “A Journey in the Wilderness of the world” with speakers from St. Andrew’s sharing interesting stories about hope in the wilderness. We are excited to have a winter camp where we can explore the Canadian wonderland of Gracefield, take part in outdoor activities like snowshoeing, or skating on the icy pool, as well as enjoying a cozy indoor time of spiritual renewal and Christian fellowship. If you have not been to Gracefield before, give it a try this year and join friends of St. Andrew’s. there will be  three tracks one for adults lead by Huda Kandalaft, one for Youth lead by Aisling Boomgaardt and one for Children Lead by Susan Smelters. Bring your favorite board game to play in the evening, and your favorite hot drink to share. Online registration will be open Nov. 19 and will close on Jan. 12, 2018 to allow us to plan according to numbers.
